Black Box Recorder return to play London gig

Dec 10, 2008

In keeping with the news of the last few days, the sometimes quite wonderful Black Box Recorder have announced that they are to return to play a gig at The Luminaire in Kilburn on February 18th. Though the band never officially broke up, this will pretty much be their first outing since 2003s Passionoia LP. Vocalist Sarah Nixey, who I always assumed was extremely hot even though I had never seen her, announced the news on her website, stating: "If you intend to attend, please dress smartly."

If you've forgotten who Black Box Recorder are, take a look at their pop classic 'The Facts of Life' (scratch what I said earlier, Nixey is quite clearly in the video) below. And, because we're nice, we've also included a clip from Luke Haines' previous band, the brilliant and oft overlooked Auteurs.

Haines and Moore are the thinking person's double act. I actually thought Passionoia was severely overlooked and is a great record...apart from the School Song. BB#4 should be a classic - there one-off single with Art Brut as The Black Arts was splendid, even if it failed to puncture the Xmas charts in 2007... John Moore's solo stuff is pretty decent too, though the Expressway were too Billy Idol. Revolution 9 were great...
