Glastonbury rumour mill kicks into gear

Dec 12, 2008

It's about this time each year when the festival rumour mill kicks into action, and the predictions for the 2009 Glastonbury Festival have started to come in thick and fast. Various sources are reporting that the headliners for the Pyramid Stage are now confirmed in the shape of Neil Young, Blur and Bruce Springsteen. None of these is a major surprise and all could be amongst the festival highlights by the end.

Elsewhere, the news is mixed, with the awesome Orbital linked with a performance, as well as the perennially awful Kaiser Chiefs. Where the Kaiser Chiefs would play is however a possible question, as surely they would feel that they deserve a headline slot this year. The names Kanye West, Tom Jones and The Specials are also being bandied about.

'the thought of doing a Courtney Cox during the Boss' set may do.' That was exactly my first thought at the prospect of a Bruce set, too!

Even Blur won't get me to go again, although the thought of doing a Courtney Cox during the Boss' set may do.

If Kanye plays I'm going to sneak in and nick his autotune rack so everyone can hear how shit he really is. Then I might switch his water bottle with clear acid so he can disintegrate from the inside out, infront of tens of people

And I think I'll just stay in the tent if Neil young clashes with Kanye.

Even though he was doing dad rock when Weller was a moddy punky thing? And continued doing it when Weller was doing his smooth soul thing? Hmmmmmm...

When you're right, you're right Paul. Neil Young invented dad rock, it's a scientific fact.

And as for his whiny fucking voice. Christ, what a shit idea that would be having him headline the biggest musical party on the planet. Unless a mass suicide is on the cards, I suppose. The Somerset Massacre?

Fucking hell. Neil "dirge" Young? Blur, The Boss, Kanye, Sir Tom and The Specials all sound perfect; party music is what Glastonbury is about, in my view and they can all deliver on that score. If Neil Young plays though, he needs to be stuck in one of the wigwams in the fucking hippy field. Dull. As. Fuck.
