Various Glastonbury news

Jun 22, 2009

Michael Eavis has told the Guardian that he intends to quit organising Glastonbury in 2011, and hand over the reigns to his daughter Emily and her hubby to be Nick. He still intends to be involved after the handover, mind..

"I still feel I have an important role to play," he said. "Even if I go I'll worry about the drains, the rubbish, the recycling. There will be a gradual process of her and Nick taking it over."

All well and good, but how does that help us with the fact that the weather forecast seems to be getting worse and worse with every passing refresh of the metcheck forecast? Having been at the pub less than 24 hours ago speaking about how we need to buy suntan lotion, it would appear that we may have placed one almighty jinx on the whole affair, with rain now predicted for every day except Sunday. Oh, and Saturday looks like it may be biblical. We now hate the entire Eavis family, God, and John Kettley.

Flashlight will be shutting down for the duration of the festival, as most of us will be there. In a quite staggering act of hypocrisy given our previously reported feelings of the site, it looks like we will be producing updates via the lump of crud that is Twitter. Join us here if you can be bothered..

I hope it rains...as I'm no going and certain TV presenters and those who think Glastonbury's part of the social calendar like Glynbourne and Henley Regatta deserve to get dislodged by endless rain... Still, I took several days in Wales getting pissed on in a recreation of the Somme. Waterproof gear, rum, cider, and falafels are all that is required...I do wonder why we all don't piss off to that similar festival in Spain, which usually has a better line-up and is likely to have clement weather?

Why don't weather men just admit they can't forecast more than a day in advance? It's just gone from biblical to half as much rain in one press of F5.
