Liam Gallagher: "Alex Ferguson looks like a dustbin man"
Jan 28, 2010
Yeah, yeah, we know he hasn't made a decent record in coming up for fifteen years, but occasionally, like today, Liam Gallagher makes for damn fine copy. Firstly, in a move which all involved with Flashlight thoroughly endorse, he described Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson as looking like both Taggart and "a dustbin man". Gallagher, speaking to Football365, had the following to say ahead of last night's Carling Cup semi final second leg between his beloved Manchester City and some other club from Salford:
"Mancini [Manchester City's new manager] looks good but then, all Italians are cool. He's certainly cooler than that Taggart from across the road - he's a top manager and all that but he looks like a dustbin man." Liam also admitted that although he's "buzzing off" City striker Carlos Tevez's form at present, "it would be a challenge" to make him look good in his Pretty Green clothing.

He wasn't done there though, oh no. During an interview with XFM he expressed his love for Televisual mentalathons Total Wipeout and I'm A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here, claiming that he'd like to appear on either show, provided there were no other contestants present. Which would, in fairness be pretty funny. He said:
"I'd like to do all that shit. They do it [Total Wipeout] in Argentina. I'd love to do it on my jaxy, with no one about."
Oh, and he also spoke a bit in the same interview about his new band's plans, stating that him, Andy Bell, Gem and the rest intend to have their album out by July..
"A lot of these songs I wrote before the band [Oasis] split up," he said. "I mean, there's a few new ones on there that are coming out now."
He added: "We're going in the studio in April with a producer, we're going to do three songs with him and if he doesn't balls it up and we don't balls it up then we'll go in and do the whole album with him."
He also expressed his disdain for Oasis's lack of workrate following their initial (and good) flurry of singles and albums in the mid 90s:
"Seven albums for Oasis is not good, I don't think. We've been going 18 years, 16 years or whatever and all we've done is seven albums. Ian Brown's on his seventh solo album. I just think it's poor, really," Gallagher said.
"I'm not going to beat myself up about it, I think we should have made better, bigger albums. Or more albums. Having like four or five years off is just no good," he added. "Obviously Noel wanted a bit of time off and we don't. The band split in August - we was in the studio in November 'cos we're mad for it."
All in all, the lad certainly seems more energised than for many year. In fact, the only flaw we can spot in this whole plan is that, even releasing an album every four years, Oasis weren't able to cobble together more than two half decent songs per album. Oh, and the one who wrote those songs has left the band. Also, Liam has yet to show even the vaguest hint of having the songwriting nous to make this work. Less still Andy Bell (in his Oasis years, before any Flashlight cohorts get arsey). Even less still, Gem. Apart from that though, things look positive for a masterpiece now they got rid of that lazy good for nothing older brother of his..
Right, in the next week or so (deadlines don't exist in Flashlight world; we're such renegades) we will be launching a weekly e-mail newsletter. This will basically be the usual gubbins, letting you know what we've reviewed and found funny in the last week, what we have coming up, as well as details of competitions. If you would like to sign up, please just send an email with your name and email address to newsletter@flashlightmusic.co.uk - we've said it before but it definitely bears repeating: if you saw most of us trying to work computers you'd believe us when we say we wouldn't know how to do anything untoward with your email address, even if we wanted to..
