Mitch Mitchell found dead
Nov 13, 2008
Mitch Mitchell, the last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been found dead in his Portland hotel room. Mitch, one of the most influential rock 'n' roll drummers of all time, had been touring with the Experience Hendrix tour. He was 61.
Mitchell played in the Experience trio from 1966-1969. Coming from a jazz background, his dextrous but explosive 'fusion' style was central to classics like 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)', 'Hey Joe' and 'Fire'. He also played for The Dirty Mac, the band assembled for the 1968 Rolling Stones Rock 'n' Roll Circus, as well as various gigs and recordings with John Lennon and Eric Clapton. He was a bit of a legend, all told. Watch him in his pomp here.
