Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to release movie soundtrack
Nov 11, 2009
Nick Cave has announced that he, along with fellow Bad Seed and Grinderman Warren Ellis are to release their soundtrack to the forthcoming film The Road on January 4th. Perhaps surprisingly for such a happy go lucky fella, the soundtrack is apparently "a light, haunting, simple score with a sense of absence and loss at its heart." You don't say?
Mind you, the film doesn't sound much like it's going be about two college kids who hate each other (one's a jock and the other, hilariously, a nerd...they're like the original odd couple) but, having been forced to spend time together for some reason end up finding things in common. On a road. Though, in fairness, that movie should get made, and Nick Cave should definitely soundtrack it. No, this version of The Road is based on Cormac McCarthy's book and is, according to Cave himself, "about the loss of things, the absence of things, the lack of things. The lack of the wife/mother is present in every frame of the film."
Given the fact that everything the man touches seems to turn to gold at the moment, and given that his soundtrack to The Proposition was quite wonderful, it all suggests this will be well worth checking out, with or without the nerd subplot.
