NME Awards 2009
Feb 26, 2009
Hell yeah! After suffering through the corporate suckfest that was The Brits last week, thank you so much to NME for putting on a proper, alternative awards ceremony last night, sponsored by those lovely folks at Shockwaves. And HMV. And Bench. And 4music. And Red Stripe. Sock it to the man!
The winners of the evening's prestigious awards showed that NME don't care for ratings or popularity, only innovation, with Oasis, Muse, Kings of Leon and MGMT winning pretty much everything. Note those names kids, if NME say they're good, they damn well must be.
Oh, and let no-one say that the magazine has lost its political edge, either. Going where others fear to tread, they only went and gave the award for Villain of the Year to George W Bush (who couldn't even be bothered to turn up to receive his statuette). Yeah, that's right, ex-President of the United States of Mother Fucking America, George W Bush! Yeah, you read right. Think of the ramifications. NME didn't, they don't give two hoots about 'the man'.
Apparently a fun time was had by all, but we can only go on heresay, as our invite evidently got lost in the post. Here's to them giving our postman Villain of the Year in 2010. I bet they will as well, the crazy bastards! The list of winners can be seen below...
