NME Awards 2009

Feb 26, 2009

Hell yeah! After suffering through the corporate suckfest that was The Brits last week, thank you so much to NME for putting on a proper, alternative awards ceremony last night, sponsored by those lovely folks at Shockwaves. And HMV. And Bench. And 4music. And Red Stripe. Sock it to the man!

The winners of the evening's prestigious awards showed that NME don't care for ratings or popularity, only innovation, with Oasis, Muse, Kings of Leon and MGMT winning pretty much everything. Note those names kids, if NME say they're good, they damn well must be.

Oh, and let no-one say that the magazine has lost its political edge, either. Going where others fear to tread, they only went and gave the award for Villain of the Year to George W Bush (who couldn't even be bothered to turn up to receive his statuette). Yeah, that's right, ex-President of the United States of Mother Fucking America, George W Bush! Yeah, you read right. Think of the ramifications. NME didn't, they don't give two hoots about 'the man'.

Apparently a fun time was had by all, but we can only go on heresay, as our invite evidently got lost in the post. Here's to them giving our postman Villain of the Year in 2010. I bet they will as well, the crazy bastards! The list of winners can be seen below...

I actually bought the NME last week...I shall put it down to illness. It's like a poorly written Smash Hits from the late 80's-90's... Sad as a lot of the writers are my age or thereabouts! They all look young, so must be suckers of Satan's cock... Look how many acts also feature in the Brits. Heck, the Brits recognised The Cure decades ago... I saw The Big Pink support TV on the Radio and they were the worst band I saw last year. If you want a new definition of comedy, go and see them live... Alexa Chung? She's significant... and Noel's blog. That must be interesting: "Smoked a B & H. Recorded another bad to quite bad record and let others writer. Slagged off another act. Sadly do not put myself under same critical gaze..." Still, could be worse, the NME could be Q, whose latest cover is very SMELL THE GLOVE !!!

I always wondered why I didn't really like Muse. I always thought it was their wanky-prog leanings, but it turns out it was due to me being soooo jealous of Matt Bellamy's sexiness. Sexy weasel bastard
