Primal Scream to perform seminal album

Feb 17, 2010

You may have been expecting today to be something of a Brit-fest on Flashlight, but frankly we simply can't be bothered. Lots of people acted like idiots, won awards they generally didn't deserve and frankly bored us to tears. Roll on next week's NME awards, which promise to be oh so different. Boring. What isn't boring, however, is the news that Primal Scream have announced a one off performance of their classic 1991 Screamadelica LP. Yes, everyone's doing it nowadays, and yes, it's become as relevant a sign post that a band admits its best days are in the past as a Greatest Hits album, but this still promises to be a top night out.

The gig takes place on November 26th at London Olympia, and tickets go on sale on Friday 26th February.

Sounds a shocker - middle aged folks having a flashback in Olympia. Weird. It admits that Primal Scream aren't a forward-thinking proposition...Then again, Screamadelica is probably the Sgt Pepper of the 90's...The last time I listened to it I recalled a mass of filler and kack. Then again, if they played the Dixie-Narco e.p., the song version of Come Together, and I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have it would be quite impressive... I am of the opinion that Primal Scream albums flip between crap and patchy - their most consistent albums were probably Vanishing Point and Xtrmntr (those ruined by rubbish Chemical Brothers remixes and a bad, bad cover of 'Motorhead' by Motorhead... Sounds almost as bad as the Charlatans playing their 1st album...which remains their worst long-player! Where will this all end - David Bowie playing 'Tin Machine II'? Depeche Mode playing 'Exciter'? New Order playing 'Republic'? Weird...
