Bjork - Nattura
Oct 30, 2008
Bjork's 'Nattura' is a call to arms to the Icelandic government to get their environmental issues in order before it's too late. Profits from the record will go into helping young companies in her native Iceland to be more aware of how they can be more ecological sound. A noble sentiment indeed, but one that doesn't make Nattura any more listenable. This is a Bjork a long way from the cute pop of The Sugarcubes or 'It's Oh So Quiet'.
And yet it's somehow fitting, knowing what the song is all about , that it sounds like this. There is something wild, feral, about it; drums half way between tribal rhythms and heavy metal, and a pulsing bassline that never relents. Thom Yorke lends his vocals to the track but they're barely noticeable above this musical din and Bjork's trademark caterwaul.
It may not be pretty but it certainly does the job.
