Bullion - Young Heartache

The third release by the mysterious Bullion is, well, in the parlance of de yoot dem, sick. Fitting into a convenient niche with the likes of Flying Lotus, this is the epitome of fucked up future soul, as the talented producer weaves all kinds of technical jiggery-pokery around a main sample for each tune on the EP. The title track is a stilted, staggering beat built upon a vocal loop. 'Are You The One' is a dirty bass-heavy thing that follows a similar formula, but with a far more sinister feel. However, the standout track is the one that's been getting a hammering from Benji B on his 1Xtra Deviation show over the last couple of weeks - 'Time For Us All To Love'. This is a three-quarters speed disco tune that pumps out its complex beat around another vocal refrain. On Bullion's MySpace page (check it and the tunes here), someone called House Shoes had this to say about it: "After listening to the new Bullion joint, I drove back to Detroit and punched my mom in the stomach. Filthy." Quite.
