The Capitol Years - Revolutions

We're a full three weeks late on this one. However, as 'Revolutions' sounds as if it was conceived to be listened to in a minimum of 90 degree heat, The Capitol Years are more out of step than we are, so balls to it. As you'd expect from a track made single of the week on Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie's Radio 2 show, this is melodic, uplifting summery pop. The first minute alone of 'Revolutions' contains nods to no less than Belle & Sebastian, glam rock, The Beach Boys and 60s psychedelia.
The b-side retains all these influences, adding folk harmonies and gentle, plucked guitars. All in all, an engaging and eclectic debut single. Well, when we say debut, they've allegedly made five albums. Timekeeping evidently ain't a strong point.
