We like this

Pushing 40, four albums in and still receiving a rather disappointing amount of recognition compared to many of their peers, Jimi Goodwin and Doves are still showing no signs of wilting. This, the first single to be taken from the new album is, from what we have heard, possibly the most classic Doves sounding single of the new collection. With a song-writing ability that leaves most of their contemporaries in the shade, they manage to take a Morricone-esque Spaghetti Western sound and turn it into another world-weary day in Northern Britain. This is the Doves doing the grey skies and industrialisation that they nailed so well on Some Cities and it feels refreshing to have them back. Kind of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly crossed with Shameless if you will...

The band are also doing their bit for the 'Save The Vinyl' movement by releasing not one, not two, but three limited edition 12"s featuring remixes that range from the trancey to the outright psychedelic. The mixes come courtesy of Still Going (DFA), Prins Thomas, Playgroup and The Glimmers. Prins Thomas is the pick of the crop for me, seeming to go nowhere at all but actually rather affecting...
