It's always nice in these days of musical uniformity to hear something different. While North Atlantic Oscillation's influences are easily identified - Brian Wilson by way of The Beta Band vocals, Air-esque floaty synths, plus myriad other guitar/electronic/psychedlic bands from your record collection - the ideas combine to create something quite unique.
'Ceiling Poem' suggests an understated Aliens, shorn of all the wilfull wackiness that so often holds them back, while their ethereal cover of The Flamingos' 1959 doo wop classic 'I Only Have Eyes For You' is quite wonderful, sounding like the Super Furries at their prettiest and most idiosyncratic. If they can harness these ideas over the course of a whole album, they could just create something special.
