Rodeo Massacre - Heartaches and Wonders EP

Listening to 'Heartache and Wonders', the biggest compliment I can pay is that just about the last place I would possibly have guessed Rodeo Massacre hailed from is East London. Sure, the riff heavy garage rock template has been aped to within an inch of its tight trousered life, but this is done well enough - and authentically enough - to work.
The vocals may recall PJ Harvey (albeit with a hint of Patti Smith), but the jangle of 'The World Has Changed' and the swirling swathes of Hammond in 'Woman' are pure Americana. They strut in all the right places, while revealing enough soul so as to not appear vacuous, but not enough for teenage indie boys (and thirty something writers) not to be just a bit terrified of vocalist Isabel Lindqwister. Given that this is a proper EP like what they used to make, this is very promising indeed.
